Starting in San Fransisco you head for the Golden Gate Bridge (there are bike lanes) passing by Fort Mason, the Marina and Presidio National Park.

After admiring the view from the bridge you continue the rest of the 13 kilometers downhill to the picturesque seaside village of Sausalito. There are some cafés and restaurants where you can have a coffee or lunch.

From Sausalito you can choose take the ferry back to San Fransisco if you feel you already had enough of biking.

From Sausalito you can also continue for another 22 kilometers (total of 35 kilometers) to the lovely seside fishing village of Tiburon. From there is a ferry, passing Alcatraz, back to San Fransisco. A lot of people use the ferries for going to work in San Fransisco.

No matter if you end your bike trip in Sausalito or if you head on for Tiburon, do stop in the little village Mill Valley and Old Mill Park to see the Redwood trees and the amazing villas. From there you can continue a few kilometers into Muir Woods and admire the really nice houses hidden among the trees.

After arriving back in San Fransisco from Tiburon you have a short bike along the bay to Fisherman´s Wharf.

We do recommend a visit the famous Boudin bakery at Fisherman´s Wharf to buy some sour dough bred.

Bike rental

There are several places to rent a bike. We rented our bikes at Blazing Saddles San Fransisco just by Fisherman´s Wharf and by the last stop of the Powell/Hyde Cable Car stop (tram).

We were really impressed by the efficiency of the staff at Blazing Saddles. An experience itself! They help you adjust the bike, the helmet and you get some advice for biking trips.
