Anaga National Park East
This is a rather unknown point-to-point hike along the eastern coast of Tenerife starting in the little picturesque village of Igueste de San Andrés taking you across a ridge down to Playa de Antequera.

Trail running shoes work just fine
This hike includes a truly beautiful drive along the coast north of Santa Cruz to the little picturesque village of Igueste de San Andrés. The distance is 14 kilometres north of Santa Cruz but will take you very well half an hour since it is a windling road.
Halfway you pass by the beach Playa de Las Teresitas, a long lovely sandy beach with some cafés and restaurants.

Arriving in Igueste de San Andrés, drive all the way through the village to the other side of the valley until you reach the end of the road. There is a parking and a bus stop. You can also park your car along the road. Parking is for free. This is where the trail starts.
Follow the small road Calle de San Pedro passing by the church and continue along Calle el Carmen following the yellow/white marked trail.

When leaving the village the ground changes into into volcanic rockstones and the elevation is steep, almost 400 metres until you reach the ridge. Take your time and rest along the way. The views of the village of Igueste are beautiful.
After about 45 minutes you reach a crossing. Here you choose between walking down to a due lighthouse, about 500 metres down, or continuing along the trail. To continue along the trail, follow the yellow/white cross and not the way to the lighthouse, El Semaforo in Spanish.
Finally reaching the ridge you will see a white house built in stone on your left hand side, a nice place for a rest after the long ascent. This is Montana de Atalya. It will take you about an hour to get here from Igueste.
We met some people that walked up here to admire the views. It is a lovely hike walking up and then back.
The trail passes by the house on the right hand side. It then continues down passing by two small cairns of stone. Follow the trail for about 300 metres until you come to a steep trail on your right hand side leading you down to the canyon. From here you also see Playa de Antequera.
Do not continue forward. You will realize that you are on the wrong trail if the trail gets really difficult to follow.
We actually went the wrong way here and stubborn as we are we continued since we did not want to turn around. On our way back we saw the trail leading to Playa de Antequera very clearly. How could we miss it? By then we were tired and dediced to walk up to the ridge again.
Continuing to Playa de Antequera you follow the trail. Quite a lot of people walk this trail so it is probably rather straight forward after you have walked down the canyon.
You then walk the same beautiful way back to Igueste de San Andrés.
After the hike we drove back to Playa de Las Teresitas for an after-hike. Still a bit annoyed after having walked the wrong way that beer, quesadillas and guacamole tasted so great!
