Spain is sun, beaches, palm trees and millions of tourists. But it is also lovely white villages (pueblos blancos), impressive mountains and national parks, highlands and an endless amount of lovely large cities like Madrid, San Sebastian, Palma de Mallorca and Barcelona. Adding to that the architecture is stunning in cities like Barcelona, Seville and Madrid and there are dozens of museums filled with art by world famous Spanish painters like Picasso, Dalí, El Greco and Miró.

No matter where in Spain you choose to go you will find beaches, mountains and cities which makes it easy to plan nice round trips if you know where to go. Welcome to check out our proposed itineraries and day hikes below!

The regions of Spain

Canary Islands

The Canary islands are mostly famous for its beaches and charter tourism. But you don´t have to go far off the beaten track to find an amazingly beautiful volcanic and mountaineous landscape decorated with lovely white Spanish villages - pueblos blancos.

Convinced about finding something totally different from the typical charter destinations we went to the north of Tenerife, the inland of Gran Canaria and the less known island of La Gomera. We were totally stunned by the beauty of the landscapes, the charming Spanish villages and all the hiking routes available. Adding to that you find everything from rain forests to deserts in this region including the highest mountain in Spain, Teide with 3,718 metres.

Below we have chosen some of the most beautiful hikes in the Canary islands. Most of them are around 15 kilometres but it is easy to make them shorter if you like.

Tenerife is seen from a far distance since the highest mountain in Spain is on this little Canary island.

Besides the moon-like landscape around Teide the Anaga National Park on northern Tenerife is a place to fall in love with...

Hiking in the Pyrenées

The terrain and nature in Spain is very varied and there is an endless amount of day hikes all over the country.

Far up in the north you have several national parks in the Pyrenées on the border to France and Picos de Europa along the northern coastline.

North of Barcelona you find Costa Brava and in the south close to Granada, Sierra Nevada. Adding to that there are several national parks in the Canary and Balearic islands.

The Font Romeau Nature Trail Run is a fantastic trail running race! If you have heard about Kilian´s Classic, this is the one! Choose between the Carlit marathon of 42 kilometres with an ascent of 2300 metres and the Trail des Lacs of 25 kilometres...
