Vernon and Nevada falls

Vernon and Nevada falls

This is a very popular hike and you will probably walk together with a lot of other happy hikers! A good thing is to take the John Muir Trail back down.

Starting/Finishing Point: Happy Isles

(Bus stop, also the stop for Half Dome hike)
Distance: 12 km
Length of Time: 4-6 hours
Ascent/Descent: +/- 600 metres
Difficulty: Red

Water along the way: No

Shoes to choose: Trail running shoes

How to get to Nevada and Vernon falls?

The first part of this hike is strenous, but easy to walk since there are 600 granite steps all the way up to Vernon Falls and then a steep rocky path further up to Nevada Falls. The views of the waterfalls is impressing.

When you reach the Nevada Falls, cross the footbridge that crosses the stream, Merced River, above the fall. From this point go straight ahead to the start of the John Muir Trail for a loop trail back to the bus stop.
